Teaching Asia: Professional Development


Run by the Australian National University (ANU), this PD day course prepares teachers for education in the Asian Century. Key questions covered:
• What examples of Asian studies content are suitable for schools at a primary and secondary level?
• How do I incorporate the new Australian curriculum cross-curriculum priority ‘Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia’?
• Why is the Australian Government White Paper ‘Australia in the Asian Century’ important? What are its objectives for education? How will it affect my school?
• Why do we need to incorporate Asian languages into school programs? What languages should we choose?
The PD course is certified by the NSW Institute of Teachers.
Scope of endorsement: Professional Teaching Standards at Professional Competence. 2.2.1, 3.2.4, 6.2.4, 6.2.7, 7.2.6 for the course Teaching Asia.
